Principal’s Message

Dear Thornhill Park families,

Term 4 is in full swing, with plenty happening across every year level. Please take your time to read through the newsletter.

Reminder: no school Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 November

There will be no school for students on these two days. Students return on Wednesday 4 November.

The school will be closed on Monday for a staff Curriculum Day and the Tuesday is the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday.

Enjoy the extra long weekend!

Prep 2027 transition program

We are delighted to welcome our 2027 Prep students and families to Thornhill Park. Our transition sessions help children become familiar with their classrooms, teachers and new friends, so the first day of school feels exciting rather than daunting.

We have had two transition mornings already in Week 2 (16th October) and another today (23rd October) with the final prep transition happening on Friday the 6th of November.

How to help your child get ready for school at home:

– Talk positively about starting school and visit the school grounds together

– Practise independence skills: opening lunchboxes, using the toilet, putting on shoes and jumpers

– Read together every day and share stories about school

If you know of a family with a child starting Prep in 2027 who has not yet enrolled, please encourage them to contact the office.

State-wide Step Up Day: Tuesday the 8th of December

On State-wide Step Up Day, every student in Victorian government schools spends time with the class and teacher they are moving into for 2027. At Thornhill Park, students will meet their 2027 teacher and classmates and take part in getting-to-know-you activities.

Grade 6 students will attend orientation at their allocated secondary college for the day.

Students in Prep to Grade 5 will step up into their 2027 classrooms at school.

Building works and disruptions

Building works are continuing at the school and have impacted the play space. You will note some areas of the school are fenced off and out of bounds. Thank you for your patience while we improve our school.
