Thornhill Park Primary School was built in 2022 to open in 2023 and is located in the suburb of Thornhill Park approximately 40 kilometres west of Melbourne. It was originally named Rockbank Murray Road Primary School (interim name) until a community consultation process had occurred and Thornhill Park Primary School was chosen as the preferred name. Our school has been built with a capacity for 525 students and caters for students from Years Prep to 6. We have scope to grow rapidly in the next few years and it is predicted that we will have over 1000 students by 2026. Further accommodation will most likely be provided to cater for this expansion. The grounds sit alongside a new creek installation in the Thornhill Park Estate and is surrounded by many new houses, bike paths and open park spaces. The school community is culturally diverse with many families coming from a language background other than English. We strive to provide a strong culture of inclusion and establish a supportive environment for all students and their families.
The buildings were designed by ARM Architecture and built by Hutchinsons Builders in 2023, with the assistance of the Victorian School Building Authority. The school boasts innovative design features informed by indigenous artists including the ‘Billy Button’ theme that is present throughout. The buildings have been designed with a mix of flexible and traditional learning in mind with a Competition Grade Basketball Gymnasium, dedicated Specialist wing with Art, STEM and Food Tech classrooms and vibrant classroom teaching and administration spaces. The grounds are landscaped using native plants and provide students with a wide array of options for play.
Our staff have a range of experience and work in teams to provide differentiated programs for all students. We value the establishment of a strong culture and have built a team of educators who have students at the centre of their decision making and strive to make a significant impact. We offer a curriculum based on building strong foundations in Literacy and Numeracy, whilst providing students with a range of real-life and problem-based experiences. Our teaching spaces also enable us to have a Specialist hub consisting of Physical Education, Food Tech, STEM, The Arts and Auslan. Our learning environments provide opportunities for students to explore their curiosity and develop as 21st Century citizens.
