We encourage parents to be involved in their child’s education at Thornhill Park Primary School. It is important to build strong home-school partnerships to ensure your child is getting the most out of their Thornhill Park experience.
Reporting will be an ongoing process at Thornhill Park Primary School. Teachers will work with students to set goals based on areas for improvement and data collected in the classroom. Teachers will then post photos and comments of student work to you through a personalised Class Dojo account that enables you to check your child’s progress against their goals. This enables you to see what they are doing in the classroom. There will also be opportunities to communicate with teachers during the hours of 8.30am – 4.30pm each weekday via Class Dojo and invitations to have a meeting with the teacher at least twice a year to talk about your child’s progress. At the end of Semester 1 and Semester 2, we will provide you with a summary of learning and an indication of your child’s progress against Victorian Curriculum Standards.
Sometimes we may ask for volunteers to help us with excursions, sports days or reading in the classrooms. Volunteering at school is a wonderful way to meet new people from the area and develop a strong connection with the school. You are welcome to assist if you are able, however you will need a valid Working With Children Check Card and it will need to be photocopied at the office before you can assist in the classrooms. Speak to your child’s teacher if this is something you are interested in.
From time to time we will run parent training sessions to ensure you feel confident when working with students at our school. If you are helping in a classroom, you will be required to complete one of these sessions each year. Keep an eye on our communications channels for when these opportunities arise.
At Thornhill Park Primary School we will continue to provide a wide range of communication platforms for you to receive information. We use Compass as our main mode of classroom and whole school communications, but we also ensure that messages are posted on our Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as through Class Dojo and newsletters on our Webpage.
Parents can also have a very important role at our school by nominating for School Council. School Council meets once a month after hours and is responsible for organising many of the events for our school. It is a wonderful way to become involved in some of the decision making that guides how we would like our school to run.
Whole school assemblies are scheduled for Fridays at 2.40pm in our gym. This is a way for us to celebrate our week and provide parents with important information that may have been missed through other forums. All parents are encouraged to attend.
