While we have just completed week 3, this is our first newsletter for the term, so I would like to say a welcome back. Our staff and students have come back refreshed and keen to continue their learning. Below is some important information regarding events.

Swim Program – A Huge Thank You
A big thank you to our wonderful staff who supported our Grade 3/4 and 5/6 Swim Program over the past fortnight. This was our first time at this new venue, and we’ve been delighted with how well it has worked for our students.

Curriculum Day – Monday, August 10
Please note this is a Curriculum Day and students should not attend school.

Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings
SSG meetings have been taking place over the past week and will continue for the next fortnight. If your child requires an SSG meeting, the school will have already contacted you directly. If you are unable to attend your scheduled meeting, please call the school office to let us know.

PRIMARY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts them behind.

If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify school as soon as possible on the day of absence using one of the following methods:

1. Online: log the absence directly using Compass.
2. Telephone: the school office and let the staff know your child’s name, class, date of absences and reason.

Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.

Why do I need to notify the school if my child is absent?

Schools need to know when and why a child is absent and you need to know if your child isn’t at school.

If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained.

This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.

What is your responsibility?

You are legally required to ensure your child attends school every day or you must provide an explanation for their absence. You should let the school know in advance of any upcoming absences or let them know in the morning if your child won’t be at school. Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term.

Recognising great attendance and punctuality.

Our attendance target is 96%.  Each week, we reward the class with the highest attendance (which includes getting to school on time!), with our school mascot, Ripwell in their classroom for the week.

Breakfast Club – A great way to start the day

At Thornhill Park Primary School, we know that a great day of learning starts with a healthy breakfast. That’s why our Breakfast Club is open every school day from 8:15am until the first bell, welcoming any student who would like a nutritious breakfast or a snack before class.

Each morning, students can enjoy a delicious range of nutritious breakfast options, including:

• Cereals
• Fruit cups
• Milk
• Tuna and rice
• Baked beans, or spaghetti.
• Fresh fruit

To brighten the colder months, Wednesdays are Toastie Wednesdays, with a warm cheese toastie on the menu to help our students start the day feeling warm, full, and ready to learn.

Breakfast Club is about much more than food. It helps ensure every child has access to a healthy start while also strengthening our wonderful school community. Our student volunteers play an important role each morning, developing teamwork, responsibility, and pride as they help serve their peers.

If your child is running a little late, skipped breakfast, or is simply feeling a little peckish, remind them that Breakfast Club is always here to help. They’ll always be greeted with a friendly smile, plenty of delicious and healthy choices, and a welcoming environment where everyone belongs.

Breakfast club is proudly supported by Foodbank Victoria and our local community partner, Friendly Grocer Thornhill Park.

Compass Pay is a tool that allows you to pay for incursions, excursions and camps online with a credit or debit card.

We’re excited to bring Auskick and Superkick back to Thornhill Park this term!

Sessions will run from 3:15pm – 4:15pm on the school oval on the following dates:

Important: As this is an after-school program, a parent or guardian must remain on site for the duration of the session. This is to ensure children can be collected immediately if a session is cancelled due to weather or any other unforeseen circumstances.

• Tuesday 21st July – AFL will run a Primary Play session with students during PE classes
• Friday 24th July – AFL will give a short talk at assembly (approx. 5 minutes), followed by an information table outside for any questions

Hello everyone, and welcome to a new term of learning and connection at Melton South Community Centre! Many of your favourite courses are making a return for term 3, and some exciting new courses are making their debut as well.

As well as our full range of computer and work ready classes look out for the great new range of cooking classes and all that’s new in the Arts & Crafts sections for both kids and adults.

Winter is the perfect time to come to the centre, keep warm and learn something new.
