STEM with Mr.Rohan
Our students have been engaged, being creative and innovative in STEM this term!
Prep students have been learning how to give instructions to Blue-Bot robots. They have been breaking tasks into small steps and fixing problems with their code.
Year 1 students have been learning how to use Blue-Bots and Root to create and navigate mazes and puzzles.
Year 2 students have been learning about computer science through fun activities. They have explored coding ideas such as loops, algorithms, debugging, and conditionals.
Year 3/4 students have been developing their coding skills using Code.org. They have been learning about algorithms, loops, conditionals, and events.
Year 5/6 students have been creating their own characters using 3D modelling software. They have been learning how to use design tools, change objects and improve their designs.
It has been amazing seeing students having fun, solving problems, and building their STEM and technology skills!
Physical Education
Foundation
Students in Foundation have continued developing their fundamental movement skills. Over the past two weeks, the focus has been on throwing and catching.
Year 1/2
Year 1/2 students have been learning and refining their forehand strike. This skill is used in net and wall games such as tennis, squash, and badminton.
Year 3/4
Year 3/4 students have been introduced to cricket, with lessons focused on batting, catching, and fielding.
Year 5/6
Selected Year 5/6 students represented our school at the NRL Billy Slater Tag Gala Day. Our students demonstrated our school values throughout the day. The boys’ team won three games and lost one, while the girls’ team remained undefeated. Well done to all students involved!
National Science Week

Our Learning in Prep
This term our Prep students celebrated 100 Days Brighter! What a fabulous accomplishment reached by the students. We enjoyed a parade, many crafts and activities, and special treats to celebrate a huge milestone!
LITERACY
In UFLI, students have been mastering their short vowel sounds, helping them read and write everyday. We have been working hard on learning each sound of the alphabet and are now making our way to learning further spelling rules. Students have been enjoying using their whiteboards to practice their writing skills of CVC, CVCC, and heart words. Using decodables, the Prep cohort has been achieving reading passages with new sounds each week. Students are always excited to show their teachers and their friends their growth in their reading as we add each new sound and rule. We also had so much fun learning in our Book Week costumes!
In Daily Writing this term, students have continued to develop their confidence as writers through rocket writing. They have been using picture prompts and their growing knowledge of sounds to write factual sentences about animals. Students have focused on orally rehearsing their sentences, stretching out words to record the sounds they hear, using known heart words and including capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In Reading this term, students have explored both information and persuasive texts. They have learned to identify the difference between facts and fiction and investigated how information texts help us learn about animals and the world around us. Students have also begun developing their persuasive language skills by sharing their opinions and giving a reason using the word “because”. Through engaging texts, class discussions and oral language activities, students have built their confidence in expressing and explaining their ideas.
In Grammar this term, we have been building our understanding of sentences and how we use them to communicate our ideas. Over the past few weeks, we have been learning to identify the difference between a question and a statement, as well as exploring pronouns and how they can be used in place of a person’s name. We have also been learning about the conjunctions ‘and’ and ‘because’, practising using these when speaking to join our ideas together and applying this understanding when writing sentences.
NUMERACY
In Numeracy this term, we have been learning about number patterns and practising counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We have also been exploring division and learning how to share a collection equally between two groups. We have been practising our one-to-one correspondence when counting to make sure we have the correct number of objects in each group.
We have also been exploring place value, learning to identify the tens and ones in two-digit numbers.
We have been learning about prepositions — words that tell us where something is located. The Preps have been building their vocabulary and using a range of prepositions to describe the location of objects. We are now working on using these words to give and follow one and two-step directions.
INQUIRY
In inquiry this term, we have been learning about fins, feathers and fur. Focusing on the different habitats that animals live in and what animals need to live and thrive in their environments.
We have had the opportunity to explore and develop our knowledge on many different animals and their habitats with a focus on native Australian animals. Our inquiry learning has been paired with our work in literacy, reading, and writing. This has increased students’ ability to read informative texts about animals, write informative sentences about animals and develop critical thinking skills.
WELLBEING
In Wellbeing this term, our Preps have been learning about how we can show Respect in different places around our school. We have explored what respectful behaviour looks and sounds like in the classroom, playground and other areas of our school.
We have also been learning about emotions and personal strengths, discussing how we recognise and manage our own emotions and how we can notice and celebrate the strengths of others. One of our lessons focused on the strength of being brave, where students explored times when they might need to be brave and how being brave can help us try new things and overcome challenges.
We also explored the importance of sharing through the book Sharing, written and illustrated by an Aboriginal elder, Aunty Fay Stewart-Muir. Students discussed what sharing looks like, why it is important and how we can share with our friends in kind and respectful ways.
AUSLAN
This term, our Preps have been developing their Auslan skills through a range of fun and interactive activities. We have learnt to greet others, sign numbers 1–10, describe animals, recognise and sign things around the house, and combine signs to communicate simple ideas. Students have also explored sea animal signs through games, mime and poems, and learnt signs for different feelings while using appropriate facial expressions.
We have been introduced to Deaf Culture and explored the importance of eye contact, facial expressions, greetings and gaining attention when communicating. Our Preps have enjoyed learning new signs and building their confidence in communicating through Auslan.
